We use Formal and Informal Language in our speaking and writing all the time. The language of the BBC news is not the same as the language used in the "Shortland Street� TV show. When you write your Cover Letter for the job application, you tend to be formal as opposed to what you post on Facebook. Why do we do this? Pasifika Wire Live is a talanoa/chat show featuring people and topics of interest to Pasifika and the wider community. Started in 2020 by Gary and Gladys Shingles, Pasifika Wire aims to connect the voices of our communities to gain a wider understanding of the way things are.

Gary has worked in IT and the technical aspects of broadcasting for over 25 years. Gladys is a broadcaster and journalist who has also worked in the health and public sectors. Both have worked in and around Pacific media and broadcasting.

This show talks about science topics and their relevance to our everyday lives in a language that is understandable to the person on the street. Fascinating discussions are delivered along with ‘hot-off-the-press’ science news and a curious selection of the favourite music of scientists.
Pass The Mic spotlights the stories and experiences of New Zealanders from migrant and former refugee backgrounds. The first series from 2022 is a community-led collaboration in partnership with Belong Aotearoa, Sport Waitākere and Storyo, hosted by Elina Ashimbayeva. The second series from 2025 focuses on the employment experience of lived experts and was made with funding from the J R McKenzie Trust.
